Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) Program: Pilot Program in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) recently adapted a LEAD program to address the high number of narcotic related calls they receive with the goal of reducing incarceration rate of low-level, non-violent offenders in an attempt to decrease the DA case load and save tax payer dollars. In this session, LVMPD LEAD officer, Lisette Ruiz, will discuss the results of this pilot program as well as review challenges they identified and overcame during the process. Next steps for introducing this program department wide will also be discussed.
